Jo Williams

SOCIAL WORK CONSULTANT

Creating reflective spaces to practice and learn.

Jo Williams, Social Work Consultant

Hello

I provide independent supervision, coaching, leadership programmes and reflective learning offers to professionals across the Care, Health and Education sectors (working with both individuals and groups).

My goal is always to strengthen a person's knowledge and skills as well as to enable the development of a reflective culture within an organisation.

I also develop other academic and practice-based learning and teaching offers to the sector, which draw on a range of key theoretical frameworks such as systemic practice, psycho-analytical, psychodynamic, relationship based, restorative practice and leadership models.

These offers range from whole system consultation, to developing the curriculum for formal qualifying and post-qualifying programmes and continuous professional development.

A full list of the services I offer can be found below, plus my academic and professional qualifications, and my current professional links and affiliations

I am also proud to be a source of expertise and opinion for the sector and have been published widely, as well as contributing to a broad range of conference papers, professional research websites and blogs, and to podcasts too.  Lists of all these can be found here.

And if you're interested in talking to me about providing expertise, opinion or ideas around my specialisms, I'd love to hear from you

My background

My background is as a social worker, with over 30 years experience in social work and social care settings, with both children and adults.

I am interested in the emotional and psycho-social aspects of reflective, relationship based leadership practice and how to provide spaces for supervisors and leaders to explore their role. Previously I worked at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust as the delivery lead for the national, Department for Education funded, Practice Supervisor Development Programme. Since this time I have offered reflective supervision and leadership programmes to practice supervisors and leaders in the sector. This serves to strengthen their knowledge and skills and has enabled the significant development of a reflective culture within whole organisations.

A significant passion of mine is reflective practice, with supervision being a practice and research interest. I find it particularly rewarding to provide a safe and containing space for practitioners to access another mind to think with and make sense of the complex feelings and dilemmas which can arise from their personal and professional context. I offer reflective spaces to individuals and groups, either as an independent supervisor or coach, depending on the need.

These have included a particular focus on anti-racist supervision and leadership.
