At its best professional supervision provides a safe space where feelings stirred up by close and sustained involvement in this kind of work can be given expression so that practitioners retain the ability to feel empathy; to see, to hear and to think clearly.
(Patterson, 2019)
I provide professional supervision sessions to social workers and other differently qualified professionals in aligned health, education and social care settings.
I have worked with a wide range of people from independent social workers, charity sector social workers, managers, directors and CEOs, social workers who work in schools as designated safeguarding leads, social workers working within CAMHS structures, independent CAFCASS professionals, people who lead contact or assessment centres and senior managers from local authorities who benefit from an independent space.
Info on how we'll work together, plus pricing, is below. However, if you have any questions, please do contact me.
How we arrange the practicalities
For independent supervision, I usually offer to meet new prospective supervisees for 30 minutes free of charge for you to tell me what you need and to ask any questions you may have. This gives us the opportunity to decide if we think we would like to proceed with a supervision arrangement.
Most supervisees access monthly sessions for 60-90 minutes, although I am open to a different frequency and duration according to need. Sessions can be accessed via an online platform or in person at my office space in Bedfordshire.
How we will work together
If we decide to go ahead, I recommend that the first session allows 30 minutes for us to discuss a supervision agreement , which will help us to think about how we will work together and what we may need to consider in forming a supervision relationship. This will cover things like your experience of being supervised and what might be helpful and unhelpful to you in my approach. I will invite you to share anything about yourself which might help me to understand what you need from the space and how I would know when to worry about you. There will also be the opportunity for you to ask any questions about me and the way I work.
If you work for an organisation, we will also draw up a contract for the organisation to keep which sets out the terms and conditions of our arrangement. This will cover things like the boundary of our supervision arrangement, my responsibilities as a supervisor and where this might connect to your formal line manager or the organisation and your responsibilities as the supervisee.
We will then review these agreements after the first 3 months and annually thereafter.

I have worked with Jo for almost 9 years and in that time the support she has given me has been invaluable.
There have been times where it has felt difficult to continue in my line of work but with Jo offering the time and space needed to reflect and prioritise, it has enabled me to keep doing the job I love.
Jo is incredibly patient and knowledgeable and is always happy to help whenever needed. We have built a trusting relationship where I feel able to explore difficult themes and where Jo enables me to come to a conclusion and trust in my own decision making.
I highly recommend Jo and her amazing supervisory skills!
Jo has helped me develop as a professional and as a holistic person. In my role, leading a small charity, I face complex challenges related to the nature of the work we do and the pressures on our service delivery, in managing team dynamics, mobilising and motivating volunteers, and having to be responsible for the organisation over a broad of range of skillsets. At times this has really stretched me, but I have been able to rise to the challenge.
I would not have been able to do this without the insightful, containing, kind guidance Jo provides.
Jo empowers me to trust my own wisdom, and has helped me grow in skill, and in confidence. Supervision with Jo grounds me in a way that helps me maintain my own wellbeing and enables me to be a good source of support to my team.
My supervision fees
My fee for supervision is £100 per hour. In some circumstances (for example, independent social workers and small start-up charities) I am open to negotiating a lower fee.
My cancellation policy for supervision
(i) If, for whatever reason, it becomes necessary for you to postpone or cancel the session which has been agreed and it is not possible to re-schedule, you will not lose the session if 48 hours or more notice is given.
(ii) If cancellation is within less than 48 hours, you will lose the session from the agreed package. I will of course be as flexible as possible in rescheduling sessions and acknowledge the nature of the work you do can create emergencies.
