Coaching is unlocking a person’s potential to maximise their own performance. It is helping them to learn, rather than teaching them.
(Sir John Whitmore)
I provide coaching sessions to social workers and other differently qualified professionals in aligned health, education and social care settings.
I have worked with a wide range of people from independent social workers, newly qualified social workers, new team managers, local authority senior managers, people starting up their own business or charity and CEOs or managing directors of charities, business support managers, curriculum development leads and experienced social workers seeking a new career path.
How we'll work together, plus coaching fees and cancellation policy, are below. If you have any questions, please do contact me.
How we arrange the practicalities
Most people seeking coaching come with a specific goal or need in mind and access a block of sessions as a package. This might be anything from 3 – 12 sessions initially. Sessions are usually 60-90 minutes and happen as frequently as needed. This is usually every 2-4 weeks and I can work flexibly to meet your needs. Sessions can be accessed via an online platform or in person at my office space in Bedfordshire.
I usually offer to meet new people for 30 minutes free of charge for you to tell me what you need and to ask any questions you may have. This gives us the opportunity to decide if we think we would like to proceed with a coaching arrangement and what this might look like in terms of practical arrangements and cost. If we decide to go ahead, we will also draw up a contract for you or the organisation you work for, which sets out the terms and conditions of our arrangement.
How we will work together
The aim of the coaching process is to give you a reflective thinking space to consider your own professional development goals and find ways to move forward with confidence. The success of the process rests on us building a collaborative relationship where I can begin to understand you as a practitioner and leader.
I use a range of theoretically and research informed responses to the dilemmas, challenges, achievements, dreams and visions that you bring to the session, to help you to find the right path for you.
It is important that in every session we review how you are feeling about the process and that you walk away with some clarity about your next steps.

I met Jo when I had got to a professional crossroads and my confidence in deciding which direction to go was low and I had a lot of doubt. The sessions gave me the space to think and appreciate my skills and experience and develop some ideas about my future.
Jo is brilliant at asking questions and listening deeply, which enabled me to find my own answers and feel validated.
Her approach also models something important about forging relationships to enable change and hope and I know that as I move forward in my career, her influence will stay with me.
The coaching sessions have been transformational for me and I feel clear and confident about the future.
When I was 4 months into a new management role, I was faced with a complex grievance process against me. I was confused and scared.
Thankfully, Jo was recommended to me and within the first 5 minutes of talking to her, I knew this is an honest, supportive, and trustworthy person.
She has a way of making you see there is a way forward out of a negative situation. She moves along at your pace, remains realistic and makes you feel like she is on your side. She breaks things down and gives you helpful ideas. You can feel she is truly experienced and does care.
If I could carry Jo around in my pocket, I would! I hear her, strong wise words of encouragement, even when I’m not talking to her.
I would and do, highly recommend Jo.
My coaching fees
My fee for coaching starts at £100 per hour and depends on how many sessions you book as a package. The more sessions you commission as a package, the lower the hourly rate. I usually charge for the whole package up front as a one-off fee and then re-contract for any further sessions beyond that.
My cancellation policy for coaching
(i) If, for whatever reason, it becomes necessary for you to postpone or cancel the session which has been agreed and it is not possible to re-schedule, you will not lose the session if 48 hours or more notice is given.
(ii) If cancellation is within less than 48 hours, you will lose the session from the agreed package. I will of course be as flexible as possible in rescheduling sessions and acknowledge the nature of the work you do can create emergencies.
